Busy days
Posted by Richard under: Hay; Sheep; Smallholding .
It’s been a busy few days.
First off, we moved the stock lambs further from the ewes to help with the weaning process. They have done a great job grazing down the field margins - here a some before & after photos to show how efficient they’ve been.
We have also got a further 60 bales of hay off our neighbours field, so we now have 120 bales in the barn. That will probably do us for two years, but we will have to see how it goes.
The final job this week is making the bottom field stockproof, particular onto the back lane - plenty of posts being put in and stock netting tensioned. Andy is off to market at the end of week, and he is planning on letting us have one of his rams before then. Once he has been to market and bought new stock he will be under a 20 day standstill - he couldn’t let any stock leave his holding for twenty days. Usually its a 6 day standstill, but this has been increased since the FMD outbreak. So its Friday, or a three week wait.
So the rush is on to get everything sorted before the end of the week, and the arrival of the ram.
